Planet Fitness lifter here. I just wish they also had barbells… can’t deadlift but I hit both squats and bench on smith machines but they don’t build strength well at all.

I love the split squats but every time I do more than like 70lb dumbbells my hamstring muscle gets strained. I realized I gotta go light with those

Honestly the smith is amazing. I started doing romanian split squats and they’re absolutely crazy. the burn is amazing.
Keep up the good work Justin. You’re really an inspiration.

    Hey justinsanelystrong
Are you going to start doing some higher rep work with machines or free weights to grow your quads? I notice they are very underdeveloped

Hey Justin, Is progressive overloading basically maxing out every session? I maxxed my bench then did max of cable chest press and injured my elbow :/

    • Patrick says:

If you do 100kg for 5 reps, progressive overload could be 100kg for 6 reps, 102.5kg for 5 reps, 100 for 2 sets of 5 reps, 100kg for 5 reps but the reps were faster than last time (increased speed of the set), progressive overload could even be lower rest periods, aka you took 5 minutes rest between 3 sets of 5 with 100kg, now you did 4 minutes for 3 sets of 5 with 100kg. As long as you become slightly better than last time you are applying progressive overload.

  7. Aidan .C says:

What I have issues on the Smith Machine with, is that the bar path is set and some Smith machines set the angles, whereas some are straight.
