Stop Elbow Pain When You Lift – Do you ever get stabbing elbow pain when you lift weights or whenever you’re doing a chinup, row, curl or cable pulling exercise? If so, it's the Flexor Digitorum Superficialis that is the issue.

Don’t worry…you don’t need to know how to say it, you just need to know how to fix it!

This muscle’s attachment at the elbow gets easily overloaded and inflamed by gripping too far out into the fingers.

Relieve this stress by putting the bar deeper into your palm on all of those exercises.

Stretching this muscle will also help it’s recovery, but make sure you’re doing that right too.

Simply bending the wrist back to stretch the forearm is not enough. In order to hit THIS muscle, you’re going to have to bend your fingers back as well.

Make these two quick changes and you can get back to making gains…without the pains.

    3. 37 yrs old triathlete try hard that destroyed my neck, traps, & shoulders to point where my left lower side is limited by my right upper side. 3. i suffered hard from this problem just yesterday to a point i had to quit my training for the day. thanks a lot for this!

  4. Wow, that was like instant relief for my elbow due to my arthritis. Even just a few moments of relief are amazing, do one for knees next!

  5. Hey Jeff, I love the videos and I would love to know how I can prevent wrist pain because when I do push-ups or even weight training for a period of time my wrist will either lock up or hurt.

  6. Thank you. Adding this to my favorite because I keep forgetting it. You’ve told me this like five times, now, Jeff.

  7. This is an amazing tip! Changing my grip, as described here, fixed my elbow pain within a week.

  8. I’ve felt this before during pull ups and somehow switched my grip to your solution. The pain was gone but I didn’t think much of it because I thought I just got stronger. Thanks for the explanation!

  9. Insane timing. I just started getting elbow pain this week and been watching alot of different videos to try and remedy it. Jeff reads minds

  10. Most valuably 39 sec of the month for me . The positioning for the stretch is golden. Another problem i have is with the other side of the elbow/forearm when i do facepull the way we are supposed to do. Do you have a recommendation for an equivalent that does target similar muscles untill i can go back to facepull?

  11. JEFF i been stretching my wrists for weeks and the pain was getting worse. This past week i had to stop a physical therapy program because of my elbow pain. Your details here has taken away so much of the pain in 2 minutes before bedtime. This is the 2nd or 3rd time youve saved my workouts and my health in the last 2 years. Youre the man and this is the best fitness channel on youtube.

  12. Hello Jeff, I enjoy your videos and would like to learn how to avoid wrist pain because when I do push-ups or even weight training for an extended period of time, my wrist either locks up or hurts.

    1. I had the same problem caused by a lifetime of doing pushups. It puts a lot of stress on the wrists. I bought a Modabber wrist brace and switched to doing pushups on 5lb dumbells. The pain was gone in a couple of months

    2. I faced a similar problem a long time ago and i watched one of jeff’s videos about it, i remember he said to put your middle finger and thumb together around your wrist and squeeze until you feel your wrist kinda dislocate then twist it with your pinky facing the other hand and hold for about 30 secs and repeat multiple times a day. It worked for me.

    3. Make sure to warm up your wrists well before training if you do pushing exercises.
You can also do push-ups on bars or on your fists which is better for the wrists.

  13. Thank you for keeping this precise, short, and to the point. I have always wondered about this pain but never knew what causes it or how to alleviate it.

  14. Some time ago I watched the ‘long version’ of this video and started stretching before going to bed, the pain in the elbow is almost gone. I haven’t been able to fully recover because of the pc keyboard, it is a ‘tendon killer’. But thanks to the advise shown in the video about how to do the ‘grabbing’ and how to stretch specifically those last two fingers, I’ve been able to feel much better and train without any issues. So, Thanks Jeff!
